FAQ'S

What is permanent makeup? Is it really permanent?
Permanent Makeup or micropigmentation, is a method of inserting small, sufficient amounts of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin in which that enhances specifically facial features such as the eyebrows, eyes, lips, and it also camouflages scars. It helps reduce the time you would normally spend doing your makeup. Permanent makeup is also helpful to those who have allergies to traditional cosmetics, visual impairment, watery eyes, and those with unsteady hands or arthritic hands who have difficulty applying makeup to their faces. Permanent makeup is relatively semi-permanent because the color is implanted into the layer of the skin and cannot be washed off or taken out. Fading can and will often occur in which that requires high maintenance where you have to get something called a touch-up. Semi-Permanent procedures can last up to 3 years depending on how well you care for your eyebrows or any other features you get done.

What is the difference between microblading, microshading, and ombre powder brows and how will I know which one is right for me?
Before we start the procedure, we’ll discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and the goals you’re wanting to reach. After discussing, we’ll take into consideration your input and use our years of experience in this field to suggest what we believe is the best direction for you based on the shape and color of your face.

What’s the process like?
This semi-permanent makeup is a two-step care, which consists of an initial procedure and a touch-up, 4 to 6 weeks later. The design of the brow is drawn with a pencil after taking a photo before, to give the customer an overall idea or concept of the form and style. Please be aware that most of the faces aren’t completely symmetrical so it will depend. Eyebrows are not supposed to be similar and this look is not possible even with natural brow hair. It is also not possible to fit a photo of your favorite celebrities’ eyebrows when you may have a completely different facial structure. Once the microblading artist and the customer have decided on a final shape (in the end it’s the customer’s decision- but the artist will make their recommendations based on their knowledge of what may suit the individual best), we will shape your eyebrows and then we’ll settle on the color. A topical anesthetic will be given shortly after that to ensure comfort to the patient. The dye is stored once you are numb. It is common to experience any loss of pigment during the healing process which is why a touch-up is necessary to be performed.

How long does it last?
Semi permanent makeup can last anywhere between 1-3 years. The pigment that is added will fade over time and it is recommended that you get an annual touch-up and check in, in order to keep the shape and pigment saturation of the eyebrow consistent. The frequent number of times you need for touch-ups will depend on a variety of factors such as skin type, type of pigment selection, skincare products...etc, so there is no guarantee in how long it will last because it depends on the individual, since everyone has different/unique skin types. Some will hold pigments differently than others and it can break down at different rates of time. At your touch up appointment, we will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment and determine if there are any necessary changes that need to be made.

Does It Hurt?
Semi permanent makeup is less painful compared to getting a tattoo but can be slightly more painful than plucking out your eyebrows or receiving a wax. Prior to beginning the procedure, a numbing cream or topical anesthetic will be applied/used and will be reapplied during the process in order to reduce any sensation of pain or discomfort. We have received various reviews on the level of pain individuals feel from the procedure but since everyone holds different levels of sensitivity, it is not possible to give an accurate response. Some clients may even feel more sensitive with one brow than the other. During the procedure, you will hear a scratch like noise which is completely normal and it’s nothing to be concerned about! Music is usually played during the procedure in the background, in order to soothe the clients and feel free to bring your own ear phones or headphones to play the music you want to listen to!

Is it safe?
Yes! It is absolutely safe because we have very experienced knowledge when it comes to the procedure and every little detail that comes along with it. Every single cosmetic skin procedure involves a very small risk but even though it happens rarely, it is crucial that you understand and accept the rare risks that can be involved with Permanent Cosmetic Makeup. These risks can include possible infections, allergic reactions, improper placement, unsatisfied results, permanency and removal difficulty. An individual’s informed decision to undergo any permanent cosmetic procedure is based upon the risks to the potential benefits, alternatives, and cost. We make sure to take every necessary step and precaution in order to minimize the risks that are associated with permanent makeup.

Are there any side effects?
Generally, there is mild swelling on/around the treated area. During the procedure, there may be instances of few bleeding and/or bruising. Things such as blood thinners, aspirin and fish oil will lead to bleeding and bruising. For a couple of days, there will be some feeling of tenderness similar to a sunburn or a rug burn.

How long is the healing process?
It is normal to experience a slight swelling and tenderness immediately following your procedure. This will usually die down within a few hours. The first week after your treatment, the pigment will appear much darker than how it’s expected once it has healed. Then the skin will naturally exfoliate and shed on its own around the 1st or 2nd week post-procedure. During the 4-8 weeks time period, is when the skin completely heals, so you will be able to see the pigment become more visible/clear on your treated area. It is necessary that you have an Enhancement Session visit approximately 6 weeks after your first appointment in order to achieve and maintain color richness, symmetry, and the thickness in the shape.

Will I need a touch-up?
Yes most definitely. Within a week of your first treatment, the color will start to fade significantly and can continue to fade as much as 50% when it hits the 4-8 week period. Throughout this time, you can think about any changes you would want to have made when considering the shape and color of your brows. This is a very common occurrence and your follow up appointment will be set and carried out when this happens.

What can I expect after my appointment?
After your appointment, you can expect to be provided with after-care instructions. You will be instructed to follow those instructions carefully to end up with the best possible results you can achieve. The area where the numbing will be worn off will be extremely sensitive so please be very cautious. The area will often change color over the next 7-10 days as it heals, sometimes it can appear much darker than what is expected which is normal so be patient and don't panic. As it scabs, the area can/will become flaky so please do not pick at it!

I already have my eyebrows tattooed/microbladed and want to change. Can you help?
Yes of course!! There are many clients who are not pleased with the way their eyebrows look. Michelle specializes in correction such as for irregular form, color, and as soon as you get in with your appointment, she can fully explain how she can help. Additional charges could be added from the correction process in the original price. This will depend on the appearance of the previous permanent makeup procedure and then it will be determined from there.
